I usually write or post about trending political, social and/or cultural issues. That’s my bread and butter. My true passion.
But quite often these topics can — in our crazy topsy turvey world — create tons of stress and anxiety. The cruelty and pain one human can inflict on another human is daunting. Word. We all have experienced the act of simply tuning into the internet or 24/7 cable news only to be traumatized in no-time flat.
Thus I find it re-invigorating to step back, quiet the mind chatter and reap the benefits of meditation. Silence is golden. For me, it’s not about subscribing to any particular religion or faith. Quite the contrary, meditation can be equally rewarding to the believer or non-believer.
Meditation centers and calms me. I find peace in the storm. Meditation both sets my mind free and anchors my soul or my core. There are even scientific studies that have enumerated the multitude of health benefits derived from meditation:
Emma Seppala PhD writes:
When my colleagues at Stanford and at other universities started researching meditation, most of us expected that meditation would help with stress levels. However, what many of us did not anticipate was the extent of the benefits the data ended up showing.
Hundreds of studies suggest that meditation doesn’t just decrease stress levels but that it also has tangible health benefits such as improved immunity, lower inflammation and decreased pain. Additionally, brain-imaging studies show that meditation sharpens attention and memory. Perhaps most importantly, it has been linked to increased happiness and greater compassion.
The greatest thing? Meditation is simple and free! File this under: will power build power.
