Romney on Trump: Trickle down racism

romneyFormer presidential candidate Mitt Romney expressed his strongest to date objections for not supporting Trump’s candidacy for president:

Mitt Romney suggested Friday that Donald Trump’s election could legitimize racism and misogyny, ushering in a change in the moral fabric of American society.

The 2012 Republican nominee, who has openly opposed Trump’s candidacy, went further than he has before in outlining to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer how the country’s character would suffer in a Trump White House. Trump’s rhetoric has caused even some other Republicans to label him a racist, and Romney said he would not be able to paper over his incendiary remarks.
“I don’t want to see trickle-down racism,” Romney said in an interview here in a suite overlooking the Wasatch Mountains, where he is hosting his yearly ideas conference. “I don’t want to see a president of the United States saying things which change the character of the generations of Americans that are following. Presidents have an impact on the nature of our nation, and trickle-down racism, trickle-down bigotry, trickle-down misogyny, all these things are extraordinarily dangerous to the heart and character of America.”
I agree with Romney’s concerns about having a thin skinned, misogynist, loudmouth, uncouth, ignorant bigot in the White House. But trickle down racism it is not. Since the election and re-election of our country’s first African American president, the racism from the GOP/Tea Party has been vastly more like a torrential downpour than a trickle.
Trump, as bluntly grotesque as he may be, is simply riding the GOP man made waves.
If anything, in this Fox TV/Trump era, racism has become more shamelessly casual. Sort of like: Did I say something wrong?
Just peep this Fox Sports reporter casually rip of not one but three racist comments and stereotypes:
Emily Austen, a 27-year-old Fox Sports Reporter, was fired Friday after making insensitive remarks about Mexican, Jewish and Chinese people.
“I didn’t even know Mexicans were that smart. …That’s f***ed up,” Austen said. “I didn’t mean it like that. You see, you guys know that the Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class.”
“The way I used to talk to the Jews in Boca. I just didn’t care,” she said. “They would complain and b***h about everything. I gave a guy, delivered his beer, and he was complaining to me that there was too much head. I knew that he was a stingy a** and he wasn’t going to give me a tip.” Read more
Mr. Romney, although Trump has been recklessly pour more fuel on the fire, your GOP party has made a living off of pandering to America’s inner racist underbelly for decades.
